Liberia Marathon Preparing for 2017

first_imgThe Liberia Marathon Trust and its organizing committee wishes to inform its many runners, partners, sponsors and the general public that the next Liberia Marathon will be held in 2017, with the specific date to be announced as soon as possible. “After the massive success of the 2015 Liberia Marathon, it was our hope to host a race in 2016 riding on the wave of our success in 2015. However, in order to continue providing a race of the highest international standard, additional preparation time is needed to take stock and build the strongest possible organization for the future. This is being done with a view to reaching out to more Liberians in Monrovia as well as in the rural communities.“We are confident that come 2017, we will be on track for one of the best Marathons ever organized in Liberia and the sub-region. To our runners, we urge you to keep yourselves fit in preparation for the 2017 Liberia Marathon; it is just around the corner,” said the Trust.“Last year, the Liberia Marathon organized its third edition of the most iconic of races, thanks to the support of our sponsors: Cellcom; Exxon; RLJ Kendeja Resort and Villas; Liberia Coca Cola Bottling Company; West Construction; Brussels Airlines; and Monrovia Breweries. We thank them for grasping and remaining committed to our vision of the Liberia Marathon as an instrument of Peace, Unity, Togetherness and Economic Growth. Also, our partners, which included the Monrovia City Corporation, Armed Forces of Liberia, Liberia National Police, Liberia Athletics Federation and the Liberia National Red Cross, provided immense support to ensure the success of the marathon.” In 2015, the Liberia Marathon celebrated a New Beginning. It was a special race as it was in celebration of the country’s victory over Ebola and a memorial to those who died as a result. It indicated a milestone in the development of Liberia, fuelling the rising self-awareness of a society and revealing their collective energy, which was mobilized to make change happen. “We are confident that come 2017 we will be ready for everything that this new beginning promises. All our efforts will be targeted to make the best Liberia Marathon ever a reality – we will go bigger and better than before. The Liberia Marathon 2017 will be a glaring landmark, being a symbol of a strong, determined and beautiful Liberia.”The Liberia Marathon is the only long distance race held in Liberia. From its very beginning in 2011, the organizers have been determined that this event becomes an annual fixture in the calendar of Liberians, tourist runners and elite athletes alike.“To our sponsors, partners and volunteers, we say again, a BIG thank you for believing in us, for supporting us and most importantly for wanting to do it all again.”Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
