We had seen the house online. We had been looking for a house in Albion. I love it here. We live in an apartment, two bedroom, two bathroom. We knew it was time to go bigger but seeing the prices around here, I didn’t know if we would have a chance.” Tennis champ Ash Barty is building her dream homecenter_img Neighbours and bidders lined both sides of the street to see this Ellen St cottage sell. Picture: Sophie FosterRay White auctioneer Philip Parker, who had paused the start of the auction to allow a forklift to come through the street, saw bidding kick off at $500,000. It jumped in $50,000 bids until $750,000 before rising three times to $790,000. The bids then bounced around in rises of $7,000, then $1,000, $5,000, and $3,000. There were 13 bids before the auction was paused at $806,000 to get instruction from the owners. The highest bidder at the time then increased their bid to $814,000 which was when Mr Parker declared the property on the market. The underbidder put forward $2,000 to take the price to $816,000, before the eventual winning bidders extended that by just $500 more to $816,500 to seal the deal. NPFL: Maikaba Reveals Reason behind Plateau Utd’s Consistency

first_img“Actually, our experience of last season helped in our preparation for this season. It was a lesson to us because we had to survive the relegation on the last day of the season.‘That is why we started preparations for this season very early; we noticed our problems from last season. In terms of playing personnel, we tried to recruit the players we felt will help us be better and started preparations very early. We played lots of friendlies, tournaments and it helped a lot. That is why you see that we are consistent this season”, the former Akwa United Coach stated. In addition to Plateau United, Rivers United and Lobi Stars have been the most consistent teams in the league this season and there has been a lot of talk from NPFL pundits that this season title will be fought between the three teams but Abdul Maikaba differs.According to Maikaba, it is too early to label a particular team or teams title contenders or favorites as there are still teams with outstanding matches. However, he praised the level of competitiveness of the NPFL this season and believes that it is only a matter of time before the league starts benefitting from it financially.“I do not believe that it is a three-way battle for the NPFL. In fact it is too early for us to tag a team or teams favorite because we are not yet half way through the season and we still have teams like Rangers, Enyimba that have outstanding matches.‘If they win all of their outstanding matches [which is totally possible] then they are back in contention to win the league. However, the fact that we are having a very competitive league is very good. If we continue in this way, it will only be a matter of time before we start benefitting financially.’ Maikaba told www.npfl.ngPlateau United are currently 2nd on the log, two points behind league leaders, Lobi Stars and level on points with Rivers United whom they face at home on Sunday.Maikaba revealed that Plateau United will approach the match with every seriousness and determination.“It’s an important match to us and equally to Rivers United because we are second and third on the log. We are going to approach the match with every seriousness.“We are going to prepare very well because we know we are going to face a team that is aspiring for the title. We are going to work hard throughout the week and hopefully we will take advantage on match-day. For sure, it’s not going to be an easy match but I assure our fans that we would not let them down.’Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram Abdu Maikaba After his first season at Plateau United which saw the former champions struggle, Abdu Maikaba has enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season placing second on the table after 17 games. The coach has attributed the team’s good run to an adequate preseason the team had.Maikaba explained to www.npfl.ng ahead of this weekend’s match against Rivers United, that last season poor outing which saw Plateau United narrowly avoiding relegation to the new resolve to prove a point this season.Maikaba spent most part of his first spell with the national junior team and only had occasional time with his players.last_img read more

Badger softball’s Mueller garners another Big Ten honor

first_imgIn Wisconsin’s current 13-game winning streak, third baseman Michelle Mueller has stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball out of the park, quite literally, on more than one occasion. After another solid weekend aiding the Badgers to a series sweep over Purdue at Goodman Diamond, the Big Ten Conference named Mueller Big Ten Player of the Week Monday afternoon.Mueller finished a solid junior season last year with a .317 average, seven home runs and 39 RBIs, but has made a large jump in her play this season, especially as of late. This past weekend against the Boilermakers Mueller batted an astronomical .714 while picking up four RBIs, two of which produced the only runs in Wisconsin’s 2-1 win in the first game of the doubleheader Friday. Then in Saturday’s Senior Day game, Mueller picked up two hits, one of which drove in a run to give her 49 RBIs for the season, a new UW single season record.Outside of this weekend, Mueller’s play has been crucial in the Badgers’ streak, as she has hit .432 with seven of her 11 home runs this season coming during the last 13 games. She has also recorded more than half (26) of her RBIs during the streak, while it took her 32 games to record the first 23 RBIs.Mueller and Wisconsin return to the diamond this Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Goodman Diamond for a two-game set with No. 19 ranked Nebraska.last_img read more
