PathStone Corp of Jeffersonville received $190,798. A total of $78,253,180 will go to 52 organizations nationwide to provide training, employment and support services for farmworkers and their families. An additional $5,688,600 will go to 16 organizations to provide temporary or permanent housing assistance. The National Farmworker Jobs Program helps eligible workers improve their agricultural job skills, and train for careers in emerging industries and occupations that offer higher wages and more stable employment.  The program also offers services such as child care, health care and transportation assistance.”Agricultural workers face significant barriers to stable employment, and all too often it is their families who pay the price,” said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. “These grants address this reality by not only helping workers improve and expand their job skills, but also by providing housing and other crucial support services.”The housing assistance grants will provide permanent housing assistance, temporary and/or emergency housing assistance, or a combination of both.  Permanent housing assistance services include pre-development and development services; project management; and resource development to secure acquisition, construction or renovation, and other operating funds for farmworker housing.  Temporary housing assistance services include housing units for temporary occupancy, the management of such housing units, emergency housing payments and case management. Services typically are provided in more than one state or areas of a single state. The National Farmworker Jobs Program is authorized by Congress in Section 167 of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, and grants are allocated through a formula that estimates the number of eligible workers in each state or territory. Puerto Rico and 45 states each have one grantee. California has five grantees.  There are no grantees in Alaska. Connecticut and Rhode Island are considered a combined service delivery area, as are Maryland and Delaware.  The grants cover a two-year period but are funded on an annual basis.  The awards announced today are for July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012.  Second year allocations will be dependent on the funds available through the fiscal year 2012 appropriations process and on grantees’ compliance with all current and future departmental guidance.Editor’s Note: A chart listing the grantees, their locations and award amounts follows this news release.National Farmworker Jobs Program Grant Awards New England Farm Workers’ CouncilConn./R.I.$391,109 New England Farm Workers’ CouncilMass.$322,032 Illinois Migrant CouncilIll.$1,437,203 OIC of WashingtonWash.$3,090,088 WASHINGTON, June 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Motivation Education & Training Inc.Minn.$1,234,045 Telamon Corp.Ind.$923,526 ORO Development Corp.Okla.$1,272,692 New England Farm Workers’ CouncilN.H.$101,931 Oregon Human Development Corp.Ore.$1,971,923 Telamon Corp.Ga.$1,532,229 California Human Development Corp.Calif.$3,790,340 Florida Department of EducationFla.$4,146,020 Tennessee Opportunity Programs Inc.Tenn.$857,418 Telamon Corp.Mich.$1,399,272 Oregon Human Development Corp.Nev.$179,751 PathStone Corp.Puerto Rico$3,058,359 Motivation Education & Training Inc.Texas$6,673,042 HELP – New Mexico Inc.N.M.$946,732 $78,253,180.00 TOTAL Motivation Education & Training Inc.Neb.$1,088,204 United Migrant Opportunity Services/UMOS Inc.Mo.$985,854 Eastern Maine Development Corp.Maine$293,084 Motivation Education & Training Inc.N.D.$607,492 Arkansas Human Development Corp.Ark.$1,144,854 PathStone Corp.N.Y.$1,656,708 PathStone Corp.Ohio$1,259,904 Telamon Corp.Ala.$791,926 PathStone Corp.N.J.$696,249 Black hills Special Services CooperativeS.D.$620,254 Telamon Corp.N.C.$2,690,959 GranteeStateAmount Proteus Inc.Iowa$1,176,640 Portable Practical Educational Preparation Inc.Ariz.$2,132,576 Mississippi Delta Council for Farm Workers OpportunitiesMiss.$1,297,176 Telamon Corp.Va.$927,817 PIC Inc.Utah$289,213 Center for Employment TrainingCalif.$8,208,464 Community Council of Idaho Inc.Idaho$1,074,827 Motivation Education & Training Inc.Wyo.$233,936 Rural Employment Opportunities Inc.Mont.$597,263 Maui Economic Opportunity Inc.Hawaii$330,485 Rocky Mountain SER/Jobs for Progress Inc.Colo.$999,986 SER Corp. of KansasKan.$1,074,936 Motivation Education & Training Inc.La.$910,782last_img read more

Sharecenter_img Share 7 Views   no discussions The earthquake of January 2010 devastated much of Port-au-PrinceThe government in Haiti says it will begin transferring cash credits to mothers who send their children to school regularly. Each mother will receive up to $20 (£13) a month and the transfers will be made via mobile phone. The programme, called Ti Manman Cheri, or Dear Little Mother, aims to benefit initially a 100,000 families in the capital, Port-au-Prince. Venezuela is providing $15m (£9.5m) for the first phase of the programme.Other Latin American countries, such as Brazil and Mexico, have adopted schemes that provide benefits to families who keep their children in education. But the Haitian government says this is the first such initiative to use mobile phones for cash transfers. Prime minister Laurent Lamothe said the programme represented “a revolution in the country.”It will initially benefit families in four of the poorest areas of Port-au-Prince and should be extended to the rest of the country by the end of the year.Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. It suffered huge human and material losses when it was hit by an earthquake in 2010.BBC Newslast_img read more

Frank de Boer is New Crystal Palace Boss

first_imgFrank de Boer has said that he is excited to join a club that “spend a lot of money” after becoming Crystal Palace boss. The 47-year-old Dutchman, who has signed a three-year deal, succeeds Sam Allardyce, who left after helping Palace avoid relegation last season.“The aim is to be a solid Premier League team, not to struggle with relegation,” said the former defender, who won 112 caps for the Netherlands.“That is our main target – if we do more that’s nice.”Between 2010 and 2016, De Boer managed Ajax, winning the Eredivisie four years in a row between 2011 and 2015. However, he had been out of work since being sacked by Italian side Inter Milan in November after only 85 days in charge – although he said he learned “a lot” from his brief time at the San Siro.“I had a good feeling about the club and the prospect of managing a team in the Premier League was exciting,” added De Boer.“This club can grow further and further. They spend a lot of money and there is the possibility to do something well with that money.“I’ve not met the players yet. We will look at one or two signings, but I think it is necessary to see all the players here first.”American billionaires Josh Harris and David Blitzer took a large stake in the club in December 2015 and promised significant investment.Belgium striker Christian Benteke joined Palace from Liverpool for a club record £27m last summer. And the Eagles earned over £109.6m in television and prize money after finishing 14th in the Premier League last season.De Boer had stints at Ajax and Barcelona, as well as six months at Rangers, during his playing career, while he was also Netherlands assistant manager from 2008 to 2010.He said he had spoken to fellow Dutchman and ex-Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal prior to becoming Palace’s first permanent non-British manager.“I have my own type of coaching and style of playing. We want to be dominant when we can, but also dominate when we don’t have the ball,” he said.“Also for the fans, we must try to be attractive. Palace has a very enthusiastic and passionate fanbase, so they will want to see that.”Eagles chairman Steve Parish said he had been “surprised” by Allardyce’s departure but had consulted with the ex-England boss about his successor. He added that De Boer’s experience of developing young players was one of the attributes that made him suitable for the Selhurst Park club.“It’s fantastically exciting for this football club, an amazing milestone for us,” said Parish.“I am excited to work with him and by what we can achieve with the club.”Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegramlast_img read more

Call made for Driving Licence Centre for Inishowen

first_imgDeputy Charlie McConalogue is calling for a National Driving Licence Service Centre for Inishowen. Drivers on the peninsula are having to drive to Letterkenny to the NDLS centre there apply for or renew their licences.Deputy McConalogue explained, “Since the new driving licence application was set up in 2013, motorists on the Inishowen peninsula have been driving to Letterkenny to apply for or renew their licences. While the NDLS system makes sense, there are only 34 centres in the country and counties like Donegal, which have a huge geographical spread, are at a major disadvantage”. The locations of the National Driving Licence Service (NDLS) centres were decided on the basis that 95% of the population would be within 50km of a centre. The Road Safety Authority says this is in line with other comparable services such as the NCT and Driver Theory Test.“There is an argument to be made for an NDLS centre in Inishowen as more than 50% of the population lives more than 50km from Letterkenny. In fact, residents in Carndonagh, Malin and Culdaff have to travel well over 60km to get to Letterkenny.“I highlighted the need for an NDLS centre in Inishowen in a recent Parliamentary Question to the Transport Minister; however Minister Ross refused to take responsibility for this issue and referred it to the Road Safety Authority.“This is a State service and the responsibility in my opinion ultimately lies with Minister Ross. The Public Services Centre in Carndonagh offers excellent facilities in the peninsula and would make an ideal location for a National Driving Licence Service centre. I will continue to press the Minister on this important issue”, concluded Deputy McConalogue. Starting her business with Travel Counsellors in July 2010, the mother of two has achieved the coveted Travel Counsellors Gold Status for each year she has been running her business yet it’s her phenomenal sales results that have put her in the spotlight recently.“I was initially drawn to Travel Counsellors because I wanted a travel role that enabled me to explore my earning potential while being there for my family. Office and retail-based travel roles don’t usually afford much freedom or flexibility when it comes to the hours you work, so I loved the idea of running my own home-based enterprise for this reason,” explains Nadine. “I really enjoy running my own business with the assistance and support of Travel Counsellors. With the head office team taking care of most of the marketing, administrative and technological aspects of the business, I am free to focus on my clients.”Not one to become complacent, Nadine is always looking for new ways to improve her business, find new customers and increase her sales. “While increasing my total sales each year is a wonderful achievement, I’m very pleased that my margin is also continually increasing. This means my earnings are also growing in value each year,” says Nadine. “Apart from reaching a pretty significant sales milestone, what makes me really happy is that I’m able to work in a way that allows me to be there for my family.”Fred van Eijk, Interim Managing Director of Travel Counsellors Australia comments, “Nadine’s ongoing success is a prime example of the wonderful things that can happen when experienced travel agents join Travel Counsellors.
