Prime Minister calls for unity says no room for another war


“If there is a threat to that then that threat must be stopped,” he said. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today called for unity in the country saying there cannot be room for another war.He says the unity must be protected to take the development agenda of the country forward. Wickremesinghe was speaking at an event held at Temple Trees today which was attended by participants from the North and South. The Prime Minister said that the country is now on a path to development and has obtained international support for the process.He said that Japan has come forward to assist Sri Lanka while India is to fund the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) power plant in the country. The Prime Minister also said that China had offered USD 300 million to assist Sri Lanka.He said noted that Sri Lanka will reap the benefits from the Colombo pot city, now known as the financial city, which is under construction and the Hambantota port economic zone.“For all this we need unity. Those who could not succeed through extremism are now trying to spread hatred through religious extremism. We must condemn that. The Lord Buddha has taught us how to speak. In the same manner Christianity and Hinduism and Islam has also taught us things. So we must condemn any attempt to spread racial or religious hatred,” he said.
