first_imgAustralia skipper Aaron Finch has hinted at a batting promotion for an in-form Glenn Maxwell in the upcoming one day international series in India. The two cricketing giants will play a five-match ODI series, with the first match taking place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 2.Maxwell was the man in form during Australia’s first-ever Twenty20 International series victory in India. Maxwell smashed 56 and an unbeaten 113 to lead Australia to a 2-0 series win over India.Maxwell had expressed his deisre to bat higher up the order after his series-winning hundred in the second T20 International on Wednesday.”Glenn [Maxwell] will get an opportunity to bat higher up the order than No.7 that he batted against India in the previous series [in Australia]. He has been in great form. His ODI cricket has been great as well. I am not sure where he will bat but higher than 7 I would imagine,” Finch said on the eve of the first ODI when asked about Maxwell’s batting position.”In one day cricket, it’s not as easy to go at the end. So it would be nice to bat higher up but it depends on what happens in the top four or top five. If the opportunity does come up, I’d like to take,” Maxwell had said after the Bengaluru T20, signalling his intentions.Earlier, head coach Justin Langer had said that Maxwell’s promotion would depend on team combination.”We’ll wait and see. We’ll do what’s best for the team I reckon. We’ll see how we go,” Langer said.advertisementLanger said if Maxwell can be more consistent his standing in the game will go to another level.”He’ll be the first to say it, that’s what we’ve been crying out for some time from him. It just goes to show what he can do. When he does things like that, he elevates himself to a world-class performer,” Langer said.”He wants that, we want that and the more he becomes a world-class performer, the more games we win and the more he gets recognised as a great player.”Also Read | Justin Langer backs Aaron Finch to regain form, praises Glenn MaxwellAlso Read | Having confidence in my game has helped: Glenn Maxwell after Bengaluru heroicsAlso Read | Glenn Maxwell on viral photo: Think Stoinis, Cummins were genuinely holding handslast_img
