Moisture from this system transported south is expected to produce a few showers and occasional gusty winds over the northern Leeward island later today. This system has a low chance…near 0 percent…of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.Sea conditions are expected to be slightly above normal along the northern and eastern coast of the island. As a result, small craft operators and sea bathers along these coastlines should exercise some caution.Tropical Storm Ophelia has strengthened over the past few hours. At 11 am the center of Tropical Storm Ophelia was located near latitude 13.0 north…longitude 43.6 west or about 1245 miles east southeast of Dominica. Ophelia is moving toward the west near 16 mph…26 km/h…and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 48 hours with a gradual turn towards the west northwest on Friday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 60 mph…95 km/h…with higher gusts. However some weakening is expected during the next 48 hours. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 175 miles…280km…mainly to the north of the center.This system is forecasted to be near the island chain by the weekend.
