first_img Share Accused Webster Edmund being escorted handcuffed by police from the magistrate’ court photo credit: Dominica centralThirty seven year old Webster Edmond of Layou has been sentenced to two years four months in prison for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.He received a five week sentence for possession of marijuana. Edmond was charged last week in connection with 15 year-old Shanice Jemmot who was missing for forty days.According to a report filed by Curtis Matthew of DBS News, “ten charges were brought against Edmund but only four were expected to be dealt with on April 7th, the drug and gun related matters. Magistrate Ossie Lewis told the court that the case has gained tremendous national interest but each matter would be dealth with according to law.”He further filed “Edmond pleaded guilty to all four charges; possession of 67 grams of Marijuana, and possession of marijuana with intent to supply, the unlawful possession of a firearm, and the unlawful possession of ammunition. He was sentenced to twelve months each for possession of ammunition anda firearm and five weeks for possession of marijuana.”Defence counsel Peter Alleyne asked the court to consider several factors before sentencing.”He said his client co-operated all through with the police and he was the one who showed the police where the missing girl could be found. Alleyne said; “even in court he did not waste the court’s time by pleading guilty.”Edmond has been charged in the past for battery on police, theft, throwing missles, malicious damage but Alleyne said these were not serious matters.Superintendant of Police, Claude Weeks told the court; “On March 28th, 2011 at seven in the evening Edmond entered a certain house in Clarkhall. He was disarmed swiftly, arrested and found with a fully loaded 12 guage firearm.”The firearm was described the firearm as one of the deadliest pieces of weapons. The ammunition and marijuana were found on arrival in the spot where the missing girl was found and were seized.
