Authorities reported a trooper noticed Hartman in the area of the fire with black soot on his forehead. Additionally, police said neighbors told troopers they saw Hartman “running” through a backyard not far from the garage fire. Police said on Aug. 9, troopers and the Nanticoke Fire Department were called to a report of a garage fire on State Route 26. State police say the investigation revealed Hartman broke into the residence to steal items and then set fire to the garage. New York State Police charged 24-year-old Alexander D.
