The RSPCA and the Rainforest Foundation UK are to benefit from Netcycler, a new service that enables users to swap and give away unwanted items in exchange for things they really want. The charities will benefit from donations and reaching new supporters while helping people to reduce their waste. To make a donation to the charity through Netcycler, site users need to upload the items they want to give away and say how much money they want their chosen charity to receive for it.Rainforest Foundation UK’s Executive Director, Simon Counsell, said: “We often have people contacting us who want to fundraise for the rainforest within their own community, so we’re very excited about this fun and socially responsible idea having a new online reusing service with a national reach – and it complements our green ethos perfectly.” Netcycler’s co-founder, Jussi Koskinen said: “We want to show people who would normally prefer to buy new that they can get items they want cheaply and with less environmental impact through Netcycler. At the same time, Netcycler’s new donation function gives people who care where their unwanted things end up the option to make a donation at no extra cost to them.”Netcycler launched in Finland in March 2010, in Germany in October 2010, and in the UK in April 2011. It has more than 30,000 registered users, and over 10,000 items have already been traded via the site with 30,000 entered as offers.Editor’s update 17 September 2014Netcycler is now Swap.com and available in the USA.
