Truck driver shot, injured at Buck Hall


first_imgPolice ranks on the Essequibo Coast were on Tuesday hunting possible suspects for the brazen shooting of a 26-year-old truck driver, who hails from New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop.The truck driver, Osafa Roberts, is currently listed in serious but stable condition at the Suddie Hospital in Essequibo.According to information disclosed by Police, Roberts was leaving his employer’s business place just after midnight at Jamakie, Buck Hall, Essequibo River when he was reportedly confronted by a male who shot him to the abdomen. He was rushed to the medical facility, where he is currently nursing his injuries.Police in E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) disclosed that on Tuesday afternoon, detectives were on the scene seeking clues and conducting interviews to solve the crime as the investigations into the matter continue.last_img read more

Man charged in connection with Letterkenny jewellery store robbery


first_imgThree men have appeared in court in connection with a series of raids including one in Letterkenny.The three appeared in connection with the recovery of €250,000 of stolen jewellery from a midlands shopping centre during Storm Emma. Costel Podaru, 27, and brothers Costel Rosloveanu, 27 and Catalin Rosloveanu, 31, all originally from Romania but with addresses at Ballaghmore, Borris in Ossory, Co Laois, appeared before Portlaoise District Court.The three men were each charged with two counts of possession of stolen property.The charges related to items stolen from a jewellers in the Golden Island Shopping Centre in Athlone between 1-3 March and a second jewellery shop in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, on 7 March.Letterkenny based Detective Garda Stephen McGonagle gave evidence in relation to two further charges against one of the defendants, Costel Rosloveanu.He said Mr Rosloveanu made no reply when charged with criminal damage at Letterkenny Shopping Centre and the burglary of a jewellers in the centre on the same date, 2 October 2017.Athlone based Detective Garda Jarlath Nohilly gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in relation to the stolen property charges.He said none of the men had made any reply when charged with possession of stolen property.The three defendants did not make an application for bail and all three were granted legal aid.Judge Catherine Staines remanded all three defendants in custody to Cloverhill Prison.
