Before the start of his team’s title defence at Real Sociedad on Sunday, Zidane confirmed Hazard would not feature in San Sebastian. “I can’t tell you when he’ll be able to return, just that he’s better,” he said. “The important thing is how the player feels. We have time to prepare for the season. “The only thing he has to do is be at 100 per cent and we’ll get to work.” One creative talent ready to play a part is Martin Odegaard, who is back in the Madrid ranks after impressing on loan at Real Sociedad last season – to the extent that Los Blancos opted to recall the 21-year-old Norway international instead of allowing him to spend another campaign at the Anoeta. “He’s our player and he can contribute to the team,” Zidane said of Odegaard, who also spent time on loan with Heerenveen and Vitesse after joining Madrid as a 16-year-old in January 2015. “Players that come to Real Madrid are the best. We have another player and he’s a player that can be very important in this squad. I know I have the best players here. Although Madrid successfully wrested control of La Liga from Barcelona last season, it was a campaign of personal frustration for Hazard following his initial €100million switch from Chelsea. He managed a solitary goal and struggled to regain top condition after undergoing surgery on a broken right foot. Hazard signed off his season with a lacklustre showing in Madrid’s Champions League last-16 loss to Manchester City. The 29-year-old went on international duty during the recent break for Nations League matches against Denmark and Iceland but did not play a single minute and reports from Madrid suggested he returned to pre-season training overweight. The management of German Bundesliga team, TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell, has raised the stake for Aruna Quadri ahead of the new season in September.Quadri joined the German side from Sporting in Portugal and he is expected to lead the team in the prestigious European league for the 2020/2021 season, which serves off next month. According to the President of the club, Stefan Frauenholz, the arrival of Quadri has come with a lot of expectation from the Nigerian.Already, the team is targeting a play-off stage in the forthcoming season with the hope that Quadri will spearhead the team’s campaign.Frauenholz said: “TTC is confident about the new season.“Quadri Aruna is a top 20 player.“The Nigerian has not lost a game in Portugal in six years. “He plays very attractive table tennis and is very pre-stressed.“I think fans will enjoy him a lot.“The TTC board does not want to commit to a clear season goal.“The playoffs would be nice, but you also know that everything has to fit.“Quadri Aruna must strike as desired and Ruwen Filus also needs a super shape. “It’s a real surprise bag.”The decision by the league organisers to cancel the doubles match the President of TTC believes would surely help the team.“That would certainly be an advantage for us, as it would give us significantly more options when it comes to setting up,” said Frauenholz.Already, the rule has already been applied to the playoffs for the German Championship.RelatedPosts How we got rights to broadcast Live German Bundesliga matches – OurTv Aruna Quadri’s uncommon qualities stand him out, says Oshodi Quadri Aruna leads Africa to World Cup Apart from Quadri, the German team will be relying on the 23-year-old Hong Kong Siu Hang Lam as he has been considered as the ideal addition to the existing squad, while teenage sensation Fan Bo Meng is also crucial to the team. The youngster won a total of five games in his first season in the Bundesliga.Tags: aruna quadriGerman BundesligaGerman LeagueTTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson told Sky Sports 1: “I’m delighted for all the players, for myself, the staff and the supporters. You can go on and on about losing a title (last season) but at the end of the day, our consistency for the last 20 years is unbelievable. The focus of the team was good, they focused on the challenge of City and came up trumps.” Even on their way to the title, Ferguson’s team have had to face the criticism that they lack the quality of United teams of the recent past. But their manager said: “It’s dead easy to say that, nostalgia plays tricks on people’s minds. Put it in context, we’ve now got 84 points with four games left – we’ve never done that. “We’ve won most of our games, drawn three, lost four, and the goal tonight… all the great goals we’ve scored over the years, from David Beckham through Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Eric Cantona, that goal has joined that. These players have joined the pedestal.” Veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs, who this season continued a phenomenal record of scoring in every Premier League campaign, refused to be drawn on how long he would continue playing for, saying: “I’m just enjoying it and as long as I’m enjoying it and contributing to the team then I’m going to carry on. “It’s nights like this that you’re going to miss when you finish but it’s nights like this also that drive you on.” Giggs was also quick to pay a glowing tribute to Ferguson, hailing his long-time boss as “an unbelievable manager and an unbelievable person”. “His appetite is second to none. Every day at the training ground he’s the first there, his enthusiasm is brilliant and that feeds through the club, he is the club,” Giggs added. “Everything comes from the manager, getting players in, getting the right staff in, and he’s just an unbelievable manager and an unbelievable person and he deserves everything that he gets.” Van Persie has often been cited as the key factor in United’s success this season and fierce rivals City falling well short of regaining the crown they won last year. And the Dutchman underlined his class with a fabulous first-half hat-trick in the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Aston Villa which wrapped up their 20th domestic league crown. “It didn’t really matter who scored as long as we won this game and we did win this game,” said the former Arsenal forward on Sky Sports 1. “From the first minute everyone played well and everyone wanted it. It was a great to score so early and it was a fantastic game of football. I’m very happy but it’s weird. I had to wait for so long for my first title and it’s a great feeling.” Striker Robin van Persie was understandably delighted after propelling Manchester United to their record-breaking Barclays Premier League title. MADRID: Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has hailed his players and coach Zinedine Zidane after they wrapped up the 2019-20LaLiga title.”We really wanted to win this league title and that is what we have done,” Perez told Spanish television network Movistar. “They have all put in enormous performances, especially Karim Benzema, Thibaut Courtois and Casemiro, while Sergio Ramos is more than a captain. They have all built a brilliant team spirit while Zidane is the architect of this title win as he has put the players to work. We are so pleased.” Earlier, Zidane had stated that he is feeling like the happiest person in the world at the moment. “It’s huge. It’s a constant battle. There are 38 games, and only at the end can you achieve something great like today. I’m extremely thankful to the players, first and foremost, because they’re the ones fighting out on the pitch,” Zidane was quoted as saying at the post-match presser by the club’s official website. “I have my role and I’m with them, but it’s a team effort. This is a huge achievement, it’s incredibly emotional. It’s very tough to win the Spanish league, very tough indeed. “There are people who say that happiness makes no noise, but I’m the happiest person in the world on the inside right now. Many thanks to everyone for the support,” he added. IANS Also Watch: Truck Catches Fire in Nagaon; Locals Suspect Foul Play
On a day they needed just one goal to topple the South Africans and assure of a place in the last four – irrespective of the result in the other match between Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia – the Olympic Eagles failed to find their sting in the fore, dancing too much on the ball without effective contact or meaningful touches in the opposition critical zone.Perhaps awed by Nigeria’s array of stars in Kelechi Nwakali, Taiwo Awoniyi, Azubuike Okechukwu, Sincere Seth and Orji Okwonkwo, alongside respected home-based professionals Sunusi Ibrahim and Ndifreke Effiong, the South Africans preferred to absorb the heat for the first half hour. Seeing that the Olympic Eagles lacked the punch when it mattered, the Amaglug-glug came out to attack. And thrice they came close to putting the ball in the net, but met with the alertness and agility of goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar.Abubakar also saved the Olympic Eagles in the second half, as the South Africans fired from every angle, while Nigeria were looking to walk the ball into the net and stubbornly stuck to an ineffective strategy of trying to make hay from the wings.President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, said the failure of the Olympic Eagles was a shock. “Working together with the Ministry of Sports, we have been able to provide the team with what is required for them to excel. The team’s failure to reach the semi-finals and ultimately qualify for the Olympics is a big shock.“Three years ago, football won the only medal that Nigeria took from the Olympics in Brazil. Our expectation was that this team would qualify for Tokyo and go there to do the country proud.” Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram …Fails to qualify for men Olympics football eventCup holders, Nigeria have been booted out of the ongoing U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt following a dire 0-0 draw with South Africa yesterday night that was not enough to see them through to the semifinals. The result meant they finished third in Group B and dropped out of contention for a place in the Men’s Football Tournament of next year’s Olympics in Tokyo.Failure at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo sustained an unsavoury streak of Nigeria appearing in the Men’s Football Tournament at every other Olympics since the year 2000. Champions in 1996 in Atlanta, USA where they won Africa’s first-ever football gold medal of the Olympics, the Nigeria U23 participated in the tournament in Australia in 2000; missed the event in Greece in 2004; took part at the event in China in 2008 and won the silver medal; missed the tournament in the United Kingdom in 2012; participated in the event in Brazil in 2016 and won the bronze medal and; will now miss Tokyo 2020.
