Analysis from the University indicates those who will be most affected by the changes. The estimated five-year cost of implementing the Oxford Living Wage for University staff is £5.5 million. “The cost of living in Oxford is one of the highest outside London, but wages in the lowest paid jobs often do not reflect this. We think that the Oxford Living Wage is a good way for employers to show they recognise the financial pressures for their staff, demonstrate the value they place on their employees, and support a more inclusive economy for Oxford.” Councillor Susan Brown, Leader of the City Council, said: “I am delighted that the University of Oxford has signed up to pay the Oxford Living Wage. This is a huge commitment from one of the city’s biggest and best known employers, and will have a positive impact on hundreds of people they employ. A statement from the University read “As part of its strategic plan, the University is committed to creating an environment that is supportive of wellbeing while ensuring Oxford remains an attractive place to work. The University today announced that they have committed to paying the Oxford Living Wage, which will see a pay rise for nearly 2,000 employees, at a cost of around £5.5million over five years. “Professor Anne Trefethen, Pro-Vice Chancellor for People and Gardens, Libraries and Museums, said “There are many wonderful things about Oxford that make it an attractive place. However, it is known as being a city that is expensive to live and work in. “Apprentices, who were included when the University moved onto the Living Wage Foundation’s Real Living Wage, will be included once again. The University will initiate discussions with suppliers regarding a move to Oxford Living Wage where practicable. This does not include colleges, who employ workers separately. St Cross College and Campion Hall already pay the Oxford Living Wage. A number of colleges currently pay the Living Wage Foundation’s Real Living Wage, which is currently £9.30 an hour across the UK, and £10.75 in London. “Recognising this, I am very happy that the University Council has approved the introduction of the Oxford Living Wage for University staff, demonstrating our commitment to fair pay for our employees.” Wages will increase to £10.21 minimum hourly pay from 1st August 2020 onwards, when the commitment to paying the Living Wage will be implemented. The Oxford Living Wage is 95% of the Living Wage Foundation’s London Living Wage. The University is the largest employer in the city, and this represents a significant success for the council’s efforts to get employers to pledge to pay the Living Wage. “We recognise some businesses and organisations will have concerns about increasing the monthly payroll, but the University has demonstrated that even employers with significant numbers of people on the lowest rate can make that commitment. We hope that other employers will follow the example of the University.” The jobs that will benefit most are: Office/clerical Support (19.6%), Library Assistants, (17.6%), Security Staff (9.0%), Invigilator (7.9%), Technician (7.5%), Secretary/ Personal Assistant (7.3%), and Retail (5.2%). “Employees in a wide range of jobs are set to benefit from the new rate of pay, with office/clerical support staff, library assistants, museums’ staff, security staff, invigilators, technicians, secretarial and personal assistants and retail workers just some of the roles most affected. These are all voluntary rates: the two government rates that employers must legally pay are the National Living Wage, which is £8.21 an hour for over 25s, and the Minimum Wage, which is £7.70 for those over 21 and under 25. The implementation of Oxford Living Wage will affect 2000 employees. This represents 8.2% of University employees and 6% of casuals. Analysis indicates that a greater proportion of women (55%) than men (45%) will benefit from this move by the University.

Hamilton, bidding for a sixth world title to move within one of Michael Schumacher’s record seven, topped all three free practice sessions before making it four-out-of-four during qualifying. His dominance in qualifying in Melbourne is unsurpassed with Ayrton Senna, on six poles, the next in line. Hamilton complained after pre-season testing in Barcelona that Ferrari was much quicker, but it appears to have been mind games with business as usual resumed this week. Mercedes and Hamilton have been dominant in Formula One in recent years, winning the drivers’ and constructors’ titles five years in a row and Ferrari — and Vettel — are desperate to catch up. While the German won in Melbourne last year and backed it up with victory at the next race in Bahrain, Hamilton roared back to sweep 11 of the remaining 19 Grand Prix to comfortably be crowned champion. All Vettel’s world titles came at Red Bull, from 2010-2013, while Ferrari haven’t won a constructors crown since 2008 and no driver at the Italian outfit has tasted championship success since Kimi Raikkonen in 2007. Hamilton topped Q2 in 1:21:014 from Bottas and Verstappen, with Vettel running into the gravel at Turn 12, kicking up dirt and dust and telling his team on the radio that the “floor, front wing” would need to be checked. Daniel Ricciardo was a big casualty in Q2, finishing 12th in his first outing for new team Renault after moving from Red Bull. His team-mate Nico Hulkenberg also missed the cut, as did Toro Rosso pair Daniel Kvyat and Alexander Albon. Leclerc topped Q1 with 1:22:017 ahead of Hamilton and Bottas. Red Bull newcomer Pierre Gasly was among those who failed to get out of Q1 along with McLaren’s Carlos Sainz and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll. Robert Kubica, who clipped the wall and sustained a puncture in his Williams, was last. Lewis Hamilton has secured pole in Australian Grand Prix in every race since 2014.Hamilton is bidding for his sixth world championship.Hamilton has won twice in Australia, winning in 2014 and 2015. Melbourne: Mercedes’ world champion Lewis Hamilton picked up where he left off last year to reassert his authority and snatch a record-extending eighth pole position at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on Saturday. The Briton clocked a fastest lap of one minute 20.486 to narrowly pip team-mate Valtteri Bottas, with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel third, but well off the pace on 1:21.190. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was fourth and Ferrari newcomer Charles Leclerc fifth. The 34-year-old is the pole master in Melbourne, claiming it eight times and every year since 2014, although he has only twice, in 2008 and 2015, won a race at Albert Park. He knocked out his rivals with a blistering lap at the death to claim an 84th career grid-leading time in his 230th race. “I’m shaking, it was so close out there,” said Hamilton. “Coming from testing we had no idea where we would be, but the guys in the factory have been working so hard towards this weekend. Valtteri did an exceptional job, it was so close.” highlights For all the Latest Sports News News, Other Sports News, Download News Nation Android and iOS Mobile Apps.

Hearts of Oak fans attacked their Managing Director Neil Armstrong Mortagbe during a league game.A cross section of the club’s fans last Sunday attacked the club’s MD to demand questions on the current performance of the team. The incident occurred when Hearts played Aduana Stars in the week14 fixture of the Premiership competition. The Hearts fans numbering over 20 jumped into the VIP area of the Len Clay Spots Stadium to attack the MD as they heckled and molested him for failing to hire the services of a more competent Coach than Mohammed Polo whom they have described a incompetent. But for a few Police men on duty at the stadium and some faithful Hearts fans who run to the aid of the MD, he would have been manhandled at the Len Clay Sports Stadium by fans of his club. The agitations started when Hearts fell behind to Aduana as the fans felt the Technical team lacked the technical knowhow to avert the situation. The game eventually ended in a 2-2 draw. Some of the aggrieved fans who spoke to sportscrusaderonline.com said “We are disappointed in him. He has been around in football for a long and we expected something much better from him than he has offered to Hearts so far. He is part of our problems because we believe he could have hired a more competent coach than Polo who only enjoys making noise on radio”
DONEGAL star Eamon McGee has spoken of his desire to win more All-Irelands – after being taunted by one of Tyrone’s greatest players. The Gaoth Dobhair man said Brian McGuigan boasted about having three medals.“I remember last year against Tyrone and myself and Brian McGuigan were having a tit-for-tat. He said to me, ‘No matter McGee, I will still have three All-Ireland medals,” said Eamon today. “And he’s right. When you’re playing at the top level the currency is medals, All-Ireland medals, provincial medals that’s how the great teams will be remembered.”In an interview with the Irish Sun, McGee spoke of his desire to win back-to-back All Irelands with Donegal.“It’s incredibly hard. It’s very, very tough to do,” he said.“But it’s all about goal-setting. Now we have the All-Ireland, we need to change the goal to retaining it and actually working hard towards it. “This requires a different frame of mind. You have to approach it like what we did last year will not be good enough to retain it.“You have to find another level. And there’s no better man than Jim to help you. Jim talked about a few of the squad only playing to 60 or 70 per cent.“It’s up to them to push on and not be looking to Karl Lacey or Michael Murphy or whoever else to carry you. You have to get every man up at the All-Star level.”The Gaoth Dobhair player also laughed at suggestions that Jim McGuinness’s part-time role with Celtic was affecting Donegal.“One of the lads was asking me if I have seen less of him. Unfortunately not! Since the new year started he has been there every time training has been on. “If he’s not, we have Rory Gallagher and Maxi Curran. They’re more than willing to step it up. Since the team holiday to Dubai everyone has knuckled down.“Last year after each game Jim wasn’t happy. I’m sure once we start, we’ll soon look at the All-Ireland final against Mayo and say, ‘What went wrong?’ and ‘Why did we not drive on when we could?’”‘TYRONE STAR TAUNTED ME ABOUT WINNING 3 ALL-IRELANDS’ – McGEE was last modified: January 27th, 2013 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:’TYRONE STAR TAUNTED ME ABOUT WINNING 3 ALL-IRELANDS’ – McGEEDonegal GAA
