One of the strategic goals of the Croatian Association of Congress Tourism Professionals (HUPKT), a leading professional association of congress and business tourism, is to raise the professional standards of congress tourism through education, training and personal development. It was on this track last year that HUPKT conceived and conducted its own certification program called CCMEP (Certified Croatian Meetings and Events Professional) and so in two certification cycle Croatia received a total of 58 certified professionals in congress tourism. Certification brings additional competitiveness and a certain guarantee to customers that their service provider is a professional, who approaches each project according to the rules of the profession. Only natural persons, participants from the congress-incentive-event industry, with a minimum of two years of experience in the MICE sector can apply for certification. The certificate is valid for five years, after which recertification is done based on the collected educational points, by participating in educational events organized by HUPKT.The third cycle of certification of professionals in congress tourism is startingHUPKT will organize certification for the third time this winter, the first round of 5-6. December 2017, and the second round in late January 2018. HUPKT invites all interested colleagues from the congress-incentive-event industry to express their interest in the program by email ([email protected]) in order to be able to obtain application forms and the Certification Ordinance. “We are extremely satisfied with the first two cycles because the response was very good, so 58 people were certified as professionals in congress tourism. This is extremely important for our industry, especially for clients from abroad. They recognize and appreciate certification because it has been normal for them for years. The certificate itself makes it known that these are people who have experience in the profession and work according to the rules of the profession, while giving clients the assurance that they have found a quality partner and a guarantee that their service provider is a professional. “Points out Ranko Filipović, president of the Croatian Association of Congress Tourism ProfessionalsThe CCMEP certificate has been recognized and accepted by the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb – Department of Tourism, Croatian Chamber of Commerce – Sector for Tourism and the European Federation of Congress Organizers – EFAPCO. HUPKT is also the Preferred Provider for the Events Industry Council (EIC) which has recognized the value of the program and awarded it certification points, and collecting points is one of the steps towards CMP certification.
Decorating indoors can be subject to strata by-laws.He said owners and tenants in strata properties had to know their scheme’s by-laws inside and out. “But, unfortunately, there are many instances of residents taking actions that are in breach of the by-laws,” he said.More from newsCairns home ticks popular internet search terms2 days agoTen auction results from ‘active’ weekend in Cairns2 days ago“We had a report of a unit owner concreting their courtyard then having to jack hammer it all up as they didn’t have approval for the works. The resident previously lived in a house with only council regulations applying and was not aware he could not make this type of alteration to his courtyard without first seeking approval as stipulated within the scheme by-laws.” Mr Mifsud said even changes to the inside of the unit could be risky without checking the property’s strata by-laws. “Even changing the curtains can be an issue that causes a breach in a strata scheme. There can be by-laws that specify light backed curtains should only be installed in particular windows,” he said. “Similarly, making unauthorised changes to blinds can be a problem, while the same situation can arise with window tinting.” Apartment blocks across the city are subject to their own strata by-laws. Archers the Strata Professionals partner Grant Mifsud said even the wrong choice of curtains could result in costly consequences. “As a tenant or owner within a strata property, it’s important to be aware of the things you can and can’t do in your strata scheme,” he said.“Strata schemes have by-laws which regulate common property to help maintain peace and harmony within the community and also to ensure residents can live safely and in an orderly fashion protecting the value of their properties.” Swimming pools are a common cause for contention in apartments and units. The strata expert said common areas like swimming pools were not only strata by-law landmines, but could also raise tension between neighbours. “Some residents treat the pool like it’s their own private resort when in fact it is a shared area which can have strict rules such as ensuring children using the pool are supervised by an adult, for both safety and harmony,” he said. He said other common sources of strata-scheme disputes could involve pets, parking, parties, passive smoking, hanging laundry from the balcony as well as the behaviour of visitors.“Tenants and owners should brief their visitors about the accepted behaviour inside the strata property, particularly when holding any gatherings and be mindful of the other occupants’ peaceful enjoyment of their home,” he said.“To maintain a harmonious, friendly and comfortable atmosphere in a strata property, it’s always good to familiarise yourself with your strata scheme by-laws and play within the rules.”
Greek dry bulk shipping Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp. has concluded the refinancing of the 2011-built Capesize M/V Championship through a leasing agreement with Cargill International SA.The refinancing has released approximately USD 7.8 million of liquidity for the company.Pursuant to the agreement, the company has chartered back the vessel on a bareboat basis and subsequently entered it into a five-year time charter with Cargill at a rate which is linked to the 5-routes time charter average of the Baltic Exchange Capesize Index (BCI).Cargill will also cover 100% of the equipment and installation cost for retrofitting the vessel with an exhaust gas cleaning system. As part of the transaction, the company has issued 1,800,000 common shares to Cargill. As informed, the transaction is part of the company’s scrubber installation and time-charter program announced in October 2018. Look into Dr Bergman’s many books, including his recent release, C.S. Lewis: Anti-Darwinist: A Careful Examination of the Development of His Views on Darwinism.(Visited 717 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0 by Dr Jerry BergmanIt has long been believed that the sperm tail is a very simple structure, mostly a tail that wags to propel the sperm forward to reach the egg. Textbooks pictured this structure as a simple string like filament much thinner than a human hair. It was observed that the sperm tail produced harmonic bending waves, thus they were said to cause the sperm to swim like a tadpole. The bigger question then was, what was in the sperm head?Ideas about how sperm cells work date from their discovery by Leeuwenhoek in the 17th century. It was once widely believed that there exists a little person inside of every sperm cell head that traveled to the mother’s womb. The womb’s only role was to feed the child as it grew into a baby. This view was called preformationism. Another preformationist idea held that it was the egg that contained a little person that would begin to grow into a baby once the sperm initiated conception.Preformationist view vs modern structural discoveriesWhen it was recognized that the formation of a child required both a sperm (the smallest cell in the body) and an egg (the largest cell in the body), it was realized that reproduction was far more complex than once thought. Next, the parts of the sperm were studied. Researchers observed that the head contained mostly 23 haploid chromosomes. The first part of the tail, they found, contained mitochondria, the powerhouses of the cell that produce ATP. The rest of the tail consisted of a long thread-like structure. That ‘simple’ thread, the tail, is at last now being revealed by more detailed observations, and it turns out to be amazingly complex!Research around 1968 proved that the sperm tail—properly called a flagellum—consists of a complex system of sliding filaments that are connected by elastic springs resembling cylinder-like structures. The cross-linked filament bundles, found both in cilia and flagella, are ubiquitous in life. Scientists also found evidence that this system contains a scaffold, the function of which is to enable the sperm to swim in the hostile environment necessary to reach the egg in the Fallopian tube. It was also discovered that the basic sperm tail design is very similar in most animal species. No evidence was found for it having evolved from a simple structure in primitive animals to a complex structure in higher animals. The Latest WiggleNew research published in 2017 has discovered that the tail system is far more complex than thought 50 years ago. The front design is vital to transmit information to distant parts of the tail to enable it to function as an effective unit for steering and propelling the sperm to its end goal.[i] The system works by complex elasto-hydrodynamics that we can only briefly outline here. Each tail is programmed to produce slightly different movements in order for the sperm to reach the egg. Scientists learned some of the details of this system partly by physically moving parts of dead sperm tails and designing mathematical models of the motion.Any one movement in this complex sequence appears to be able to trigger motion right through to the distant parts of the tail. One mechanism is counter-bending of a passive flagellum that instigates a compensatory counter-curvature in the section that it is connected to.[ii] The researchers found that movement, which begins near the sperm’s head, is transmitted along the interconnected system, creating controlled oscillatory movement along the tail’s full length.[iii] The tail “utilizes interconnected elastic spring structures to transmit mechanical information from the front to the distant parts of the tail, helping it to bend appropriately and ultimately swim toward an egg.”[iv]The sections within the tail communicate by sensing the front of the tail near the section that contains the mitochondria. Each section in turn responds to information in front of it to synchronize their motions. The sperm tail mechanism first creates a sliding motion between the filaments inside the cylindrically arranged structure, producing the tail bending. Movement in this complex sequence triggers motion down to the distant parts of the tail. Even with these revelations, researchers are only beginning to understand what goes on. Phys.org says,“The mechanism of a sperm tail first creates a sliding motion between filaments, inside this cylindrically arranged structure, finally resulting in a tail bending, a bit like the piston that converts back and forth motion in to [sic] rotation of the wheel on a train. Any one movement in this complex sequence appears to be able to trigger motion right through to the distant parts of the tail.“The big question now is, are particular springs in the tail coupled-up to transmit specific biomechanical information, and just [do] these ‘rowers’ self-organize?It turns out that the design of the sperm tail is just as complex as the design of the bacteria flagellum, which is well known to Darwin skeptics as an icon of intelligent design. Both are complex well-designed structures, one located on a so-called simple primitive organism, and the other on the sperm of the most complex organism known, namely humans. This example illustrates a trend in biology. When structures do not seem very difficult to evolve, further research shows them to be far more complex and, consequently, much more difficult to explain by unguided evolution. What appear to be simple structures, such as sperm tails, on further investigation are shown to be far more complex, requiring a good understanding of biomechanics, especially elasto-hydrodynamics.If Darwin were alive today, would he still try to explain such complex phenomena with his theory of gradual transmutation via natural selection? In 1859, when he suggested that all life was the result of slow, gradual variations (now thought to come from genetic mistakes), he could not have known the intricacies of sexual reproduction down to the tip of a sperm tail. Those who know today have no such excuse.[i] “The mechanical properties of sperm tails revealed,” https://phys.org/news/2017-05-mechanical-properties-sperm-tails-revealed.html[ii] Coy, Rachel and Hermes Gadêlha. 2017. There’s a real energy here at Gluecon around the discussions about APIs. The room was packed for the presentations on the topic. We’ll pour more into the topic in later posts. Related Posts A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… It’s like an API festival here at Gluecon. I tweeted that this afternoon. But it’s not just Gluecon, though – they’re one of the hottest topics in discussions about cloud computing. In his presentation today at Gluecon, John Musser of Programmable Web illustrated how hot APIs have become and how they’ve matured. Perhaps most illustrative is his “API Billionaire’s Club.”Members of the club include Google and Facebook with 5 billion AP calls per day. Twitter has 3 billion per day. Ebay has 8 billion per month. NPR gets 1.1 billion calls per month for its API-delivered stories. Saleforce.com gets 50% of its traffic through its API. According to Musser, it took eight years to get to 1,000 API’s but just 18 months to get to 2,000. This year, the number of API’s are double what they were last year on a month-per-month basis.Internet/platform as a service (PaaS) API’s are now number one. That’s illustrative of the increased usage of services like Amazon S3 and all its competitors. Maps are the number three API, dropping from the number one spot last year. Social API’s are number two. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was made in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, did her job but the party and its workers could not rise to the occasion, the party’s State unit chief Raj Babbar said on Monday.Disappointed with the results that gave the Congress just one seat out of 80 in the State and a nationwide tally of 52, Mr. Babbar said the poor showing at the hustings had pained party president Rahul Gandhi.Mr. Gandhi lost from his family bastion Amethi, which voted in BJP’s Smriti Irani to the Lok Sabha this time, but won from Wayanad in Kerala. “He never viewed it (Amethi) as his constituency. Now, family members have given such a verdict,” the U.P. Congress chief said, expressing concern that a person who considered Amethi as his family and gave an identity to the place was not allowed to emerge victorious in the polls. On why Ms. Vadra did not have the desired impact, the actor-turned-politician said party workers and local leaders failed to rise to the occasion.“She did her job. But party workers, local leaders, candidates and the organisation could not accumulate the (electoral) benefits from it. Rahul ji worked so hard and Priyanka ji worked with such a high degree of enthusiasm,” Mr. Babbar said in his first interview after the election results. “We [party workers, local leaders and candidates] were unable to prove ourselves and rise to the occasion.”Asked about the future course of action, the 66-year-old Congress leader said Uttar Pradesh cannot be analysed in a single line.“You have to take steps after a lot of deliberations and strengthen the organisation,” he said. The lone victory for the party came from Rae Bareli, where UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi retained her seat. The BJP won 62 seats in the State, the Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party combine 15 and the Apna Dal two.‘Must accept defeat’Refusing to give any one particular factor behind the party’s poll drubbing, Mr. Babbar said, “First, we must accept our defeat and acknowledge the victory of the winner. Having said so, I cannot sit alone and deliberate upon the possible reasons for the defeat. Everyone has to sit together.”Mr. Babbar himself lost the election from the Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha seat despite opting for it, after being initially named as party candidate from Moradabad.
